My personally tested list of best cars for the real world. I will review each automobile and tell you why it made the list. |

Yes folks foreign cars dominate my list. No, I do not hate American cars, they just did not make this short list. The new/old Saturns, (which are really Opels) look very promising! I just drove a European spec Opel Vectra and it was a hoot. I also just drove a VW Golf TDI in Germany for a week. More on that later. If Ford would bring over the new Focus and the real Mondeo we would all be driving better looking and better made cars. Any question on cars and what to buy or to avoid will be discussed in my blog! I have owned 49 cars, most used, some new and I rent new cars on a regular basis both in the US and overseas. I am a car nut. I do not fix them, but know a fair bit on what makes the engine go. I can tell you how to avoid car buying mistakes and I do not work for any company. I just love cars and know bunches about them. I can help you make a good decision or at least have some info that you can use in the future. All my car links are useful and should help you as well. I know dealers and how they work and how they work you! No, you can not win, but maybe just maybe avoid being a total sucker. | |||
| Of course buying a car is a very personal decision and often an emotional one. Sometimes autos purchased based on emotion do not work out so well. My favorite cars are ones that combine reliability, safety and good driving performance. Perhaps not "excitement", but definitely not vanilla. As you will see I prefer cars with AWD and I do not consider most small SUVs SUVs. They are just tall wagons with limited off-road capability, but offer very good features. So here goes a "rational list" by category: |
